Rumours have circulated in various news sources that the 2010 World Cup could be moved to another country, such as the United States, England, Portugal, or others, due to the pace of South Africa's preparations for the event. Some people, including Franz Beckenbauer, Horst R. Schmidt, and reportedly, some FIFA executives, have expressed concern over the planning, organisation, and pace of South Africa?s preparations. However, FIFA officials have repeatedly expressed their confidence in South Africa as host, and have stated that the event will not be moved, with president Sepp Blatter re-iterating that "Plan A... Plan B... Plan C is that the 2010 World Cup will be staged in South Africa". FIFA President Sepp Blatter has stated that there is a contingency plan to hold the World Cup elsewhere but only in the event of a natural catastrophe, and that the 2006 World Cup in Germany also had a similar contingency plan.

Despite reassurances by FIFA that the event would only be moved in the case of natural catastrophe, rumours continue to circulate about possible relocation of the event. These rumors have been criticised by South Africa?s Deputy Finance Minister Jabu Moleketi, saying that some have targeted the event to reflect their persistent negativity towards South Africa and Africa.

I heard this too.... it is true that South Africa might not have enough money so they will have to choose and alternate nation or nations. i think i heard somethin about it being a joint tournament like it was in korea/japan in 2002, but i doubt it because each country has more than enough stadiums to have the World Cup matches. Hopefully we will get a show in 2010 and the World Cup will be here in the US

yes

that issue is right but that an issue, not right 100%. South Africa not have enough money, facilities and trasportation to held World Cup, but South Africa President have an ambition to held the first World Cup in Africa Continent. Another issue is Australia ready to subtitute South Africa to be the host of World Cup 2010 if South Africa can't held it, but lets see FIFA decision.

had438 Great answer!!

I think that having back up plans is a must. If South Africa wants to prove them wrong then good for them. But the World Cup is too big of an event to delay.

If another country were to host it, then USA would be the answer. They have the Stadiums, Security and commitment. Mexico is an option but have already hosted 2. Australia would not host because the Americas have been skipped and have not hosted since 94'.

Its like the current Olympic bids. I bet my car and house that Chicago or Rio will host. The reason? The americas have not hosted in a while and China and England will host the next 2.
