lets say a team like italy does HORRIBLE in the 2008 olympics do you think they will do HORRIBLE in the world cup? now NO NEED to answer this question. the MAIN question im aksking is if a team does HORRIBLE in the 2008 oylmpics do YOU think they will do HORRBILE in WC 2010?

thats true olympics are for young international stars, but some of them do play for the senior squad, but if they do they probably will improve their mistakes..

no not really cause in 2010 players over 23 are allowed to play

Not really b/c in the olympics, most of the team will be composed of players under 23, that would most likely not be part or at least in the starting 11 of the team selected to play the WC (beside players like Messi, Dos Santos, Bojan or other yougsters that are insanely good). So you can't base yourself on their performance at the olympics to say that they'll suck at the WC.

nope because olympics doesn't have many of the old players which are usually all pretty good so no it's I guess kind of like preview for future world cups in my opinion.

For the Olympic, each team can only have a maximum of 3 players over the age of 23. So a lot of good players wont be there.
Plus, a lot of clubs dont want their stars to go to the Olympic. FIFA states that clubs are obligated to release players under 23, but not over 23. And a lot of clubs dont want their stars to risk getting injured. Also, Olympic soccer doesnt end until Aug 23 while the first leg of the third Champions League preliminary round is around the second week of Aug. So there is also a scheduling conflict

As we all know Olympics is more like a junior tournament
Even if some of the young players in Beijing go on to play in South Africa, most likely they will be on the bench
They are unlikely to play key roles in 2010

Even psychologically most fans do not really take Olympics in high regard
Just look at Brazil
Five-time World Cup winners
None at the Olympics
