I dont think it would have made much difference, Rangers were never in the game during the first half. They were marginally better the second half. But here is the thing, Walter did not make changes soon enough, it was clearly not working. Why wait and hope, only Smith can tell you.

He wouldnt have done any worse than jcd, i cant help but think though if that tosser cousan hadnt been sent off in florence his ability in the air could have created something against zenit, and along with his sitter yesterday the quicker he leaves the better.

I think it is possible. JCD was ineffective for a couple of reasons. Firstly he was not getting the through balls to run on to and, secondly he was getting out muscled for the fifty-fifty balls. Rangers really needed someone who could run at the Russian defence and my preference would have been for a Burke or a Beasley rather than Novo. Much as I admire Novo's work rate and attitude I think he is limited as a footballer. I also agree that we needed Cousin up front. We missed the physical presence he offered.

As the game went on it became evident that the first team to score would win. Zenit are a decent team but they were not that much better than Rangers. If Rangers had just a little more quality in midfield and up front then the game was winnable.

If it helps, then believe that. However the truth is you were utterly outclassed from the first whistle and were lucky to get away with a reasonably respectable score.

There was only one side playing football. The other was playing at survival.

Novo has the pace and will run about endlessly unlike the lazy diddys we have like Boyd and Cousin.

It would have been a completely different game.
