yes macedonian heidelberg is a Greek team, their supporters are mainly from the north (macedonia). there are no Greek teams in the top flight anymore. they didnt want any ethnic backed clubs. Heidelberg and South are in a regional league now, which is equivelent to the second division

sure thing d-day, it is the off season here now though

I just got my South Melbourne FC membership package in the mail, looks very nice. Anyone who is interested in becoming a member of South Melbourne Hellas (wherever you are in the world), visit www.smfc.com.au or if you are in australia then email admin@smfc.com.au to receive a free membership information package and have a look over it.

For those of you who dont know who Hellas are, we are a football club from Melbourne, Australia supported mainly by the city's Greek community. We are the most successful club in Australian history with 4 titles and represented Oceania in the world club championships. We are currently in the Victorian (regional) State league which is roughly the equivelent to the second division of Australia as its the next tier down from the top flight. We're no longer in the top flight because of financial troubles and the fact that many people arent interested in allowing what they see as an "exclusively Greek club" (even though we have many non-greek australian fans).

So whether your an old Hellas fan or just feel like helping out the club sign up as a member for $99 and youll receive posters, pins and other things commemorating last years Championship triumph when we won the state league.

Match day 1 in a months time is the Greek derby between South Melbourne Hellas FC and Heidelberg Alexander FC. Its at Bob Jane Stadium in Albert park. I urge every Greek in Melbourne, whether you support Alexandros or Hellas, to get down and see the match.

If your a Heidelberg fan then help out your club as well and buy a membership. For both of our sakes we need strong Greek derbies and strong derby crowds. here is HUSC's site HEIDELBERG UNITED ALEXANDER SC

here is a video of a derby at the hieght of the Macedonian issue tensions, nice touch with the Vergina flag being brought on at the end: YouTube - 1992/93 South Melbourne Hellas vs Heidelberg Utd

MEDIA RELEASE

INVESTORS CHASE SOUTH MELBOURNE FC FOR A LEAGUE BID

Monday 12 February 2007

South Melbourne FC is courting approaches by various private consortiums interested in becoming commercial partners with SMFC in any future A league bid.

An opportunity for a second Melbourne license will be available for the season commencing 2010 once a 5 year exclusivity clause, currently in place, expires for the foundation clubs in the Hyundai A League.

SMFC favors a private equity model as a vehicle for its A League license submission.

The club is excited that private institutional investors have confidence in the strength of South Melbourne FC’s unique globally recognized brand and end to end football infrastructure (from grass root juniors, youth, womens and senior mens teams).

South Melbourne FC is the most successful Australian football club. It boasts 4 National Championships (‘84,’91,’98,’99), 1999 Oceania Champions and participant in the inaugural FIFA 2000 World Club Championship in Brazil. It is the reigning 2006 Victorian Premier League Champion.

South Melbourne is based at Bob Jane Stadium in Albert Park and has many thousands of supporters and dormant members who would welcome its involvement in the A league. It is therefore obvious why consortiums are looking to leverage from South’s existing infrastructure in establishing a second A League club out of Melbourne.

South Melbourne FC is currently undertaking a due diligence process before it settles on any final commercial partner to proceed with a submission to the FFA for a second Melbourne A League license.
