Benfica narrowed their standings table gap with Portuguese Premier League leaders Porto with a 4-0 home win over Belenenses on Thursday, December 21, 2006.

Benfica opened the scoring after 20 minutes when captain Simao Sabrosa converted a penalty after Belenenses defender Gaspar handled the ball.

Greek midfielder Giorgios Karagounis doubled the lead when his 20-metre free kick deflected in off the wall.

Mexican striker Kiki Fonseca notched his first Benfica goal by heading in a 53rd-minute cross from Nuno Gomes.

Greek midfielder Kostas Katsouranis completed the rout of ninth-placed Belenenses with a 79th-minute header.

total fluke goal for Karagounis...Santos makes crazy saves all the time...the fonseca goal reminds me of when Macedonian dove for that header in the North Shore game....

The old warrrior is always happy to bring his young pups up to speed. As happy as this old warrior was to do it, which diving header were you two talking about? It appears my memory is going before my legs, haha. I can live with that.

dude...it was that sick header that so low to the ground, yet your whole body was parallel to the ground when you dove for it...watch the fonseca header on the footage...
