Aris down Panathinaikos Aris handed Panathinaikos their third loss of the season as they beat the Athens club 1-0 at the Kleanthis Vikelidis stadium for Matchday 13 of the Greek Super League. Aris Spanish striker Koke missed a penalty, while Aris coach Guillermo Hoyos was removed from the pitch and asked to manage his players from the stands.
Match official Vasilis Terovitsas was forced to show many yellow cards in the beginning of the game as both teams tried to play hard soccer in order to take control of the game.
In the 15th minute of the game Koke was brought down inside the box by Panathinaikos defender Vyntra and Mr. Terovitsas pointed to the spot. Koke did the honors but a very poor penalty gave Panathinaikos goalkeeper Ebede no problem keeping the score level at 0-0.
Panathinaikos had possession of the ball but could not do take advantage of their chances, while Aris was counting on Havito and Koke for any quick counter-attacks. Both teams hit the locker rooms during the first half with a level score line.
Aris took control of the game during the second half and in the 54th minute after a Tuta corner kick Beisheimer, who has just come on for Nacimento, headed the ball in the back of Ebede’s net to make the score 1-0.
The last 20 minutes of the game were very scrappy as Panathinaikos was trying to break down the Aris defense with no real threats. On the other hand, Aris tried to take advantage of the Panathinaikos tactics and wasted a couple of great scoring opportunities.
