| Greek champions Olympiakos cruised to an easy 2-0 win away from home earlier today against Kerkira for Matchday 13 of the Greek Super League. Ieroklis Stoltidis and Julio Cesar were the Olympiakos scorers but the Greek Champions must show more character if they want to achieve the same result in their Champions League game against Shaktar next Tuesday.
Kerkira pressured the Athens club right from the start and was able to create 2-3 scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes of the game as they controlled the tempo in the midfield. Olympiakos were only able to respond with Rivaldo and Djordjevic but nothing worrisome for Kerkira goalkeeper Mahhamadu Sidibe.
After the first 15 minutes of the game possession of the ball was evenly distributed and Olympiakos was able to visit the Kerkira half more often but a well organized Kerkira defense was able to deter any Olympiakos attacks.
However, things changed in the last 15 minutes of the first half as Olympiakos struck twice in the span of two minutes with Cezar in the 37th minute and Stoltidis in the 38th. The half ended with Castillo and Karadimos both receiving yellow cards after the players got into a scuttle after the Olympiakos youngster struck the Kerkira player with his hand during a play.
The second half progressed with both teams shutting down their after-burners as Kerkira was not able to surmount any worth mentioning attacks and Olympiakos conserving energy for their upcoming Champions League game against Shaktar. The only chance came from Olympiakos in the 61st minute when Olympiakos forward Felix Borja hit Sidibe’s woodwork.
