I've been very critical of the film and Stone's direction of it on all sorts of forums and in the online magazine listed below.
300 Spartans will be a cartoonists interpretation of Thermopylae. Nevertheless from the teasers it looks spectacular! Don't worry about historical accuracy, enjoy it as a celebration of one of the most heroic acts in battle history.
Being a Greek, I don't feel offended by the historical inaccuracy of these movies. I feel offended by the way they present Greeks (appearance, mentality, morals).

They present everything in American standars. They present Achilleas or Alexander the Great like Rambo or Terminator .

And Angelina had a Russian accent as I can remember .

In both Alexander and Troy Greeks were presented like Celtc/Nordics, something I find very offensive.

back to 300...this movie looks awesome..heres the basic plot:

The film 300 is faithfully adapted from the graphic novel 300 by Frank Miller in which Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the last man against Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive army. Facing insurmountable odds, the Spartans' heroism and sacrifice inspires all of Greece to unite against the Persian invaders. The story is based on the famous Battle of Thermopylae which took place in the summer of 480 BC and was a turning point of the Greco-Persian wars.

As I understand the real historyu, although we eventually lost the battle, the Hellenes were so inspired that they rallied and defeated the Persains and drove them out of Hellas, at least that part of the Hellenic world. I think sometimes we forget that Hellas' borders at the time, although not like today's definition of borders by any means, were much larger and extended beyond Europe proper even.

Asia Minor was full of Greek cities. There were colonies to the west. Parts Italy and parts France for sure. Gibraltor was called the Pillars of Hercules, but I do not know if that was a Greek colony.

Leonardo Di Caprio is slated to play Alexander in an upcoming movie. Lets hope the Skops haven't poisioned that one. I can't have Italians falling into line with these Slavic imposters. We ancients have to stick together.
