A future for american soccer?

It seems that more and more people are attracted to football (soccer) in the U.S. which is great. I see that the attendance for MLS games has been increasing somewhat, and there are several expansion teams coming as well. The Euro on ESPN and ABC has definately helped. Any thoughts? Another question I have is what the hell is going on with the NY Red Bulls? I just started following U.S. Soccer, and I figured a NY soccer team would have some chemistry, but they dont seem to do to well.

A future for american soccer?

soccer is a joke in america. i wish it wasnt, but people care too much about american football (soo not on the same level as soccer). i love watching real teams play soccer, thats why i was excited to see the euro cup. if i had it my way, we would be as diehard as those europeans are. i love soccer and wish we were as into it as the rest of the world is. my dream is to go to the world cup!! (just to watch of course)

Americans always like to do their own thing. They want to create new religions... like Mormonism... and new sports... like American football... and new measurements... Some times I just don't get it. Why can't the U.S. just merge with the rest of the world? Haha...

I love football (soccer), and in my opinion, American football is too low class.

You should follow the World Cup and European Cup instead of U.S. Soccer. But yes, it's great that more and more Americans are watching soccer.

A future for american soccer?

I began watching this great sport since the age of 6, 1990 World Cup.....Back in that era, being able to watch Football in the USA was a pretty tough task in itself....I had to settle for one Serie A game a week on RAI international and recall great players at the time like Van Basten, Gullit or Baresi
The 1994 World Cup in the USA was really a turning point and soon after the exposure of the sport slowly began to grow....14 years later, it is mind blowing when I look back how much exposure this sport has in the states and it is still growing.
I was extremely happy that ESPN bought the rights to the Euros being that we had to pay for a PPV package in the past. I also heard that the executives at ESPN have been very pleased with these Euros and I do see them in the near future bidding on getting rights to broadcast some of the big European Leagues or even buying out a competitive company like Setanta North America.

As for the Red Bulls, even when they were the Metrostars, they haven't ever been one of the best Franchises in the MLS and they aren't the best supported team either. Having this team play at Giants stadium and even on the NFL Grid lines is extremely unattractive and many people in this city associated themselves more with leagues or games from their respective countries/continent

Everyone thought bringing Beckham over to America would make us equal to the English Premier, Spanish Primera, or a Serie A leagues. It didn't happen. The only future I see for American soccer is high school and college. Then, all the better players would rather go to an English, Spanish, or Italian team.

ESPANA!!!!!!!!!! Numero Uno!!!!

Soccer wont ever be HUGE in America but it will continue to grow. I heard a couple times that one of the biggest things is the summer league and all the travealing involved with such a big country. But I do beleive the MLS will grow and the national teams will def. be getting better, with more playing in europe.

As for NY someone already said they dont have much support which is true. plus their 18 yr old star striker just got traded, and their designated player has been injured this season. But if your getting into the MLS there are definitely better teams out there. like oh idk. DC UNITED!!!
