Why Is everyone so concerned about the US having, loving and embracing soccer?

I like soccer, I lived in Argentina for 2 years and I don't miss a game when the World Cup is on. I truly enjoy a well played match between Manchester United and Real Madrid, or a friendly between Brazil and Mexico, or a classic Boca/River match up, and the 2008 Euro Cup was excellent.

But one thing I can't understand or agree with is why America needs soccer. Its not out culture. We're not good at it. We don't need the MLS. Its a waste of time. Let the countries who live and die by soccer have their leagues, and let's stick to what we do (or did) best, i.e. Baseball, Football, Basketball.
Things like the MLS distract us from what WE were born to do, and therefore, we get beat in the Olympics in the sports we should dominate.
On a sidenote (which goes to prove my point) There is nothing more awkward than an American celebrating after a goal, itss like they just don't know what to do. In turn, Latin and Europenas really own their post goal celebrations with a passion.

I agree every time you see a soccer match on tv it is always followed by some sort of riot, just what america needs.

Soccer is the world's most popular sport. I'd be willing to bet that there's less than 1 million people in the world who don't know what soccer is. On the other hand, baseball, football, and basketball are played almost exclusively in North America except baseball. It's also played in Japan.
