Nothing...the problem is that the US doesn't have a market for it YET. I'm a huge soccer fan who thinks it somewhat ridiculous that Americans in general would rather watch men drive cars in circles for 500 laps than a great soccer (aka football) match. I know that there is more to Nascar than driving in circles and it is quite grueling and demanding on the drivers, but to me, there is no reason soccer doesn't get more support in America than it does. If team USA wins a tourney or two people might start to turn on to it a little bit.

The problem is that it is a bad product. Soccer is huge in most every country in the world, as we know. The knowledgeable soccer fans here want to see a quality product, not crap. Let's be honest here; MLS is currently crap. Beckham will put people in the seats, which is what the league wants, but he will do nothing to improve the league. Personally, I don't think soccer will ever become huge here, like it is in England, Italy, Spain, etc. Seriously, I'm a big soccer fan, I still play, but I literally cannot sit through an MLS game because it is just awful soccer. There is no flow to the game, they just kick it about, and nothing happens. It's like watching a high school match. I lived in England for four years when I went to university, and trust me, the local team, Oxford Utd, who are now in the Conference, would run rampant around any MLS side.

Ok first of all, it is the product. THE REASON the product is second to the Prem or La Liga is because most of the MLS clubs actually make a profit. MLS has a very stringent salary cap, and although the Designated Player Rule (which allowed teams to sign Beckham, Reyna, Angel, Scheletto, Blanco, etc., and possibly even Scheva and Zidane) is a step in the right direction, I think they should raise the salary cap little by little as more teams start making money. The secret about how European clubs can afford so many great players is that...they can't! Man U alone is $700 million in debt! Even Newcastle is $70 million in the red. MLS teams are inferior to European clubs because they are economically sound, with the quality of play getting better every season...

A lot of things americans are used to watching teams dominate over weaker teams on a consistent basis same problem in hockey MLs soccer there is not a team that dominates every year. one team wil win it all and be horrible the next year kinda boring to watch. and american soccer is not as fun as watching english soccer. or european i shoukld say. americans should be more compettive and make it more exciting to watch
