Manchester United Sign Indian Star?

Vikasha Sallan has officially completed his £1.1m move to Manchester United from Mahindra United.

The Indian midfield starlet Sallan has signed a seven-year contract with the Red Devils and becomes the most expensive football transfer in Indian football history.

Manchester United head scout Martin Ferguson has said: "When we bought in Nani and Anderson we were exicted for the future of our club, now its even more promising with the capture of Sallan."

The head scout also added: "We welcome him because he is a marvellous player, and one who brings just what we need to the team. It's a terrific prospect...my experience of this team is that when we have signed a player of this calibre, he has done wonders for us

The 17-year-old old flew into London Heathrow Airport from Mumbai last night, and underwent a successful medical earlier this morning.

Vikasha Sallan factfile

1990: Born in Punjab, India

1995: Joins Air India

1996: Swicthes to the AC Milan youth setup

1998: Fails trial period and joins Mahindra United

2003: Wins Mahindra United the Indian Youth Cup scoring 10 goals in 3 games and named player of the tournament.

2006: Embroiled in match fixing scandal involving two other teammates for which he blames former coach Derek Pereira for influencing him to miss chances.

Sallan said: "I was unaware of the impact it would make not just on me as a player, but the whole sqaud. I feel ashamed of myself and worried this ban may hinder my European football dream. I wish i wasn't easily led astray'.

2006: Hits back at critics by scoring 45 goals in 25 games, ahead of Yakubu Yasif, an amazing return for an attacking-midfielder.

On his move to Manchester United this morning Sallan said "I am delighted to be playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo."
