Start this season as we finished last............

Well, that was fucking worth the wait! When will Houllier wake the fuck up
and change his tactics. How many more times this season will we be exposed
for our lack of width! Until Diouf came on and changed the game, giving LFC
some much needed width. Everything, like last season was coming down the
middle. And then most of it was over the top.

We started the game on fire, but, and this is beginning to become a feature
of this side under Houllier once we get a knock back we seem to just lose
the initiative and resort to aimless balls in the hope that Heskey will get
the flick on down to Owen. Didn't work last season. It's not going to work
this season either. How we missed Gerrard and Hamman in the centre.

I won't slate the players, as they did better than last season. Period. Even
Cheyrou, had, a relatively good game today, but nothing to suggest he is
good enough to be an influnce. The fact remains and is becoming ever more
evident, that the tactica and style of play under Houllier is never going to
see LFC win the Premiership, no matter who good the playing staff. Houllier
is without question a good coach. But it seems ever more obvious that he is
not a good manager. A good pointer of this was the closing 20-25 minutes
when Houllier had 5 forwards playing in almost the same space. Baros, Owen,
Heskey, Kewell, Diouf. Does Ferguson do that at ManYoo or Wenger at
Aresenal? No. To say Houllier was trying to save a point and avoid defeat,
does nothing to hide the fact that it's LFC's build up play in the final
third of the oitch which is quite honestly, given the players, embarassing.

Having missed out on so many true wide players, it is time for Houllier to
rectify this. And this means getting a player such as Van Der Vart of Ajax,
who tore the defence to shreds in the Amsterdam Tournement. But will he? No.
As Houllier himself does not like wide players in his teams.

Which leads onto the bigger question. How DO we go on from here? Firstly his
tranfer policy over th epast 3 seasons must be examined. Secondly a manager,
must be appointed who can get the team playing good attacking football, and
clear out the deadwood. Players, like Biscan and Cheyrou, who in all
fairness did OK this afternoon, must be shown the door.

BUt this season i feel will yeild little more than dissapointment, as the
other clubs which will be challengeing, have made significant changes - or
are better anyway. N'castle, Chelsea, will most likely finish above
Liverpool this season. SO the best we can look forward to is a good cup run
in the League, FA and UEFA.

Oh well, here's to th next nine months!!!!

No.

How would you propose we got a player like Van Der Vart? Chelsea, MU and
various other European clubs can offer him Champions League matches and can
pay double what we can pay. Presumably Litmanen hasn't got too many sweet
stories to tell him about life at Anfield.
Lets be realistic! Houllier pulled off a MAJOR deal with Kewell, Le Tallac
and Pognolle and till we get back in the CH League we wouldn't be able to
lure any of the Fantasy signings people often suggest we go for. Van Der
Vart is way beyond us. I mean....Ayala has refused to join us because we're
not as big a club as MU and he's desperate to join them. We need to face
this fact and accept that for the time being we're not going to be able to
attract many players much better than what we have at the moment.

I thought we played pretty well today and deserved a draw.

We could have gone for Van Der Vart late last season, when the promise of CL
football was there. And we could have signed Ronaldo, for considerably less
than the £12m that the scum paid for him.

And if that is the case why has Partridge NEVER been given his chance?
