| Diouf was better than Duff > And Kewell was even better. Agreed - I thought Carragher did a good job on Duff. We played better than I thought we would, particularly in the 1st half...I think I was the only person here who predicted a loss and despite the luck of the penalty retake I think we deserved a draw given Veron didn't do anything apart from turn up and score (!). Chelsea didn't really threaten all that much apart from the goals...more clinical. Its easy to criticise team selection after the event...Cheryou or El Diouf - both of them flattered to deceive last season and I doubt anyone was too bothered which one started as neither inspire. As it happened Cheryou was dire while El Diouf was slightly above average so I guess he will take the left wing spot till Smicer is fit again. Biscan was game but so clumsy. People talk about hoping Houllier will leave...are they suggesting we have Thompson as manager instead? Does anyone seriously think we have even the smallest chance of getting O'Neil - absolutely no bloody chance. Biscan is also the only option we have with Gerrard and Hamman out (though I think moving Carragher to defensive midfield and Finnan as RB would have been a better option than using Biscan, but he was OK I thought) so when people criticise his performance I'd like to know who people think we could have played instead of him! Kewell at the front of the diamond midfield works well I think...he's too good to be left on the wing. All in all, it was a loss as I predicted, but there was room for encouragement. Heskey did well, particularly winning the ball, Owen hardly touched it. We should have taken one of our early chances but Cudicini had a blinding first 20mins. David... |

| Diouf was better than Duff Well said Gazz... I'd even go so far as to say you were playing down your team a little. You boys are going to be mighty scary when you gel. Hopefully right after we play you at Stamford Bridge... ![]() WTH "G@zz@" <G@zz@CFC.Co.Uk> wrote in message news wP%a.14792$yl6.11923@newsfep4-winn.server.ntli.net...the result didn't |

The ref played a big part he was booed and whistled throughout. Second half he was appalling. A draw would have been a fair result. Your defence played very well, never lost their man and kept good shape. We didn't get hardly any space. He was like that in last weeks friendly vs. Valencia when he came on. He seems to have more variety with his dribbling now, like he has faster feet. Veron was way better than he was with the scum. I didn't like to see him get so much of the ball. The poor cunt got booed non-stop ![]() I didn't think it was a bad match, there was a pretty good atmosphere on the Kop. We really did miss Hamann and Gerrard though. It appeared to me that Chelsea were coming out of challenges with the ball more than they should have been allowed the two missing players would have had none of that! It's early days yet and there was plenty of promise from both sides. Anyway, fair play, 3 points gained for the ref and Abramovich(sp?). -- OscarG |

I would go as far to say we played well, but, to be honest I couldn't really see us scoring, I didn't like the idea of 1 forward upfront, Gudjohnsen should have made it 2 and possibly it would have been a differant 2nd half, I think GH would have brough on Diouf a lot earlier and the whole match could have gone the other way! It will be interesting when we do start playing as a team, especially with Mutu upfront, but, sometime to go yet, as Ranierri says, it is like a small child, we have to let it grow! So true! Wouldn't it be funny if your boy's do us over at the Bridge, your history there isn't brilliant and you must be due a win, mind you, ours at Anfield was and is shocking only 3 wins since WW2, and only 11 since 1907! Hope we don't meet your boys in any of the Cups, No Offence ![]() Regards G@zz@ |

I'll boo any opposition player without provocation ![]() I expect Duff will have a great season, and Veron will make a fool of Taggart. We needed his heckling more than that today, now that we have Kewell, and Diouf is starting to show promise there are more/better outlets for his slide rule, and sweeping passes. Aye, -- OscarG |
