Comments on today's game

A home defeat on the first day of the season to a late goal means its
easy to go over the top. All the anti-Houllier comments will come out
again, but we were playing a team packed with quality who will expect to
be right up there this season. The counter argument to this is that with
a team with a lot of new faces, you want to play them before they can
settle. I don't think there's much to this, their most impressive
players, Cudicini and Terry are already settled.

Today's performance would have beaten most teams. We were unlucky to
fall behind at a time when we were clearly the better team, forcing the
pace and looking more tenacious. Seeing Kewell on the ball still excites
me, the boy is quality.

People will comment on how we were lacking players, others will say we
should have the quality to replace them. We were missing our 1st choice
midfield partnership (DH/SG) and with Finnan unfit, we couldn't push
Riise into midfield. Smicer, who has had a very good pre-season was also
out. We were down to the bare bones. Biscan and Cheyrou won't star while
they aren't used to the Premiership - but do we have the time to get
them to Prem quality?

Diouf should have started. He looked pretty good, and earned the
penalty.

I think today reiterated the need for a quick centre-back.

Dudek was unlucky with Veron's goal.

Michael did well to hold his nerve for the penalty, second time around.

Neither Houllier, nor the players should be judged after the first game
of the season, it was hardly an abject performance. There's a lot of
crap being spoken on 606 after today.

Cheyrou is a fucking disgrace. How in gods name does he even
get near the team? I can't understand how Houllier can put
him in ahead of the tea lady. Seriously there's no reason
this guy should ever put on the liverpool shirt again.

I'll judge Cheyrou all I like, he's a fucking prick and I
hate him.

Apart from that I agree we didnt look too bad at all, with
Hamman/Gerrard back we will certainly be there at the end of
the season.

I agree with your sentiment, but I think you are being a bit extreme.

I don't think Chelsea were that good, what beat us was (as usual) us.

Yep, after starting well we fell back into the old routine of being devoid
of any kind of impetus and went back to over the top balls to Owen and
Heskey.

This will NOT stop until Houllier and Thompson are shown the door. No matter
who we have in the side. Cheryrou is patently not good enough for the
Premierhsip. And as a team, neither are Liverpool. 5th Again anyone?

And before we start going on about "it's only the first game of the season".
That's 3 points dropped against a team that WILL be up there ALL season.
Also first home defeat on the opening day since 1962. Another record for
Houllier to be proud of.

Your right I was OTT but it's really annoying when we have a man as manager who
seems to treat the club as his own private train set.
