Do you think Ali Daei can lead Iran national football team to success?

IFF President Kafashian announced on national television earlier this afternoon that former national team captain, Ali Daei, has signed a 1 year rolling contract to take over the helm of the national side.

It will be interesting to see how Ali Daei deals with players he has openly had rows with in the past. The list includes Ali Karimi and Iman Mobali among others.

Selecting Ali Daei as the head coach of Iran?s national team was perhaps the best decision the Iranian Football Federation has come up with in months. Mr. Daei has long been considered as a national hero in Iran. It has become rather obvious since the recent world cup that Ali Daei was the player responsible for Iran?s success in the 1998 world cup. I anticipate a turn around in Iran?s national team and surprising victories in the next two years.

I think it is always a tough call when you hire a former player to manage a national side. Look at what happened to Stoichkov in Bulgaria recently. Great player, not such a great coach. I think Ali Daei can do well for Iran though.
