I just found out that Turkey decided to lift a ban on headscarfs at universities. That's really good news. Congrats to all Turkish female students who now have a right to dress the way they want

And I just heard another news - a 16-year-old Iranian girl dressed herself as a boy and went to see the soccer game. Since women are forbidden to attend these types of games in Iran she was questioned by the police. Don't know if she was arrested or not. My question related to this issue is why are they forbidden to enjoy soccer? And what's their religious excuse for this anyway? Yeah, I know the Iranians are pretty touchy, but I was just wondering what their ruling is based on? Segregation of the sexes?
Eh, vampie, I told you a few days ago that you're my long lost twin. I also come from a Muslim family, but am an atheist.
Uhmm, Tom, not in Iran.

LOL Vampie! I'm in Bosnia actually. They are doing their very best to make it an Islamic state, but there's no freaking way the rest of the Europe would ever allow it.
No, Shlane it isn't, Muslims are the majority here and they have all the support they can get from Turkey. But hey, this is religion here, we'll discuss politics somewhere else *grins*

My guess - and I know, you didn't ask for guesses - is that it's considered immodest for a girl to watch boys exert themselves physically.

i have mixed feelings about the unbanning of wearing headscarves in universities.
i know that there will be those families who will demand their daughters to wear it. i come from a muslim family with muslim relatives so i know some can be really intolerant.
but on the other hand, there were those who didnt go to universities because they didnt wish to be without a scarf; now they can get higher education.

as for the Iranian girl bit...well thats a bit sad really.
my friend is from iran and she and all her iranian friends love soccer; she actually plays it here in canada but i doubt she could in iran.
im not sure what the religious reasons. perhaps not everyone feels it is wrong but have to abide by the rules of others.
my iranian friends families have no issue really with thier daughters playing and watching soccer.

hope you get some good answers.

here is what i found out...Muslim men take the Qu'ran as an excuse to push for further stuff...there is no where in the Qu'ran talking about hijad, it jsut said for MEN and WOMEN to dress appropriately. if that's so how come men do not wear them? I highly doubt that it says in there not to watch soccer, it's ridiculous

How would they make Bosnia an Islamic state? isnt it an Orthodox?

Females can attend gatherings such as soccer games. However, it is recommended that girls, especially those under age, should be accompanied by adults.

But will Turkey allow student to wear equally significant items declaring other religions or ideas ? For examples : T-thirts that say "Jesus is God" or "God is a Myth" ? If not they have been made submissive to Islam ( as commanded in the Qu'ran ) .

http://islam-watch.org/MNamazie/Veiling_Sexual_Apartheid.htm

In Iran : It is afraid that the presense of a female at a sporting event will either distract the men , making them break out in acts of "uncontrollable heterosexuality" , or the woman will be considered gay for enjoying sports, when there are no gays in Iran .

http://www.islam-watch.org/Azam_Kamguian/Islam-Liberation-Women-in-Middle-East.htm

Edit : TOM ..... IF a female can get married and have sex with her husband at 9 , what is the proper age for a girl to attend a sporting event by herself ?

well, i don't exactly know why... i guess it depends how she was dressed in the first place and if she had someone like her father or brother with her. i am interpreting the ruling based upon Islam, but there is no segregation of the genders. somethings their laws do are right, but then again, sometimes they're wrong (like being extreme, such as acting like a maniacal suicidal terrorist).

*to a comment*
1. it's hijab
2. it DOES say in the Qur'an to cover yourself and wear hijab. We follow our religion, so we follow it's rules, just like Jews, Nuns, Christians, Hindus, Bhuddists, and any other belief/religion.

Well , did you know that women are banned from driving in Saudia? and the funny part that I found a very strange explanation from Saudi women for this , which is that it is better for them not to drive or deal with men for fear of their seduction and Fitnah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and Saudi women are whipped with a stick for not wearing the veil or even for not covering their faces , granted for the Wahhabi Salafi culture they still adopt!
The problem isn't only in the laws then , the problem lies that women encourage them to humilate them like this , it lies in those masculine retarded societies , those women aren't fighting for their rights!
I think for the same reason the women are banned from attending soccer in Iran !
May be they think that those players will seduce the women by their fine bodies or the women will distract the attention of those players and seduce them by their moves!
As a medical student I saw totally naked men and I didn't lust for any so I don't know what the hell is going on there !

Well I hope in Egypt they make a law to ban the Monquabat "covering their faces" from entering governmental places as schools and universities , as they irritate me , and scare me!

As far as i know in Islam men and women share equal rights but depending upon their biological structure.
As you say in Iran women are not allowed to watch soccer, actually in Islam neither men nor women are allowed to see each other if they have no relation in between them, ie you can watch your brother or your husbant or your son playing soccer but you cannot watch any third person.
Different restriction in different muslim countries has less to do with Islam but more is culture.
