| Who do you will qualify for the 2010 world cup? It is hard to make predicitions for the lesser spots prior to the draws. While you have a lot of strong candidates in your list of 32, you ignored the rules of qualifying. UEFA (Europe) has 13 spots in the World Cup. The teams from UEFA will play in 9 groups with the winners advancing. The top 8 of the second place teams will then be paired for a home-and-away playoff for the last four spots. As such, it is impossible for all fifteen of the European teams you listed to qualify. CONMEBOL (South America) has 4 guaranteed spots in the World Cup. The teams from South America play in one group. The top four advance with the fifth place team making the play-offs. You only have four teams from South America advancing, which is possible until you look at the opponent in the play-off -- CONCACAF. CONCACAF (North America, Central America, and Carribean) has three guaranteed slots. Typically, the teams from this region play down to a final group of six. The top three qualify and the fourth place team has a two game play-off with the fifth place team from South America. You only have two teams advancing from this region. As such, there will be at least one additional team from CONCACAF (probably Costa Rica) and either a second team from CONCACAF or a fifth team from CONMEBOL (with a lot of teams having a good shot at this spot). In CAF (Africa), in addition to the host South Africa, five other teams will qualify (the format has not yet been announced). You only have four other teams from CAF, so one more not on your list will qualify (Morocco and Tunisia are good bets). In the AFC (Asia), four teams will qualify automatically -- the top two in each of the final groups of five. The two third place teams will battle each other for a Play-off slot for the last bid. While you only have five from Asia, you also have one from the confederation that they will meet in the play-offs -- Oceania. As always the winner of the OFC (Oceania) does not get an automatic bid, but must compete with another team in a play-off. As noted above, you have projected both the winner of Oceania and the fifth-place team from Asia to make it, which is not possible given that they are scheduled to meet in the Playoff. Bottom line is that unless you have fixed the qualifying process, it will be impossible to predict who will qualify (except for from CONMEBOL with a good guess at Asia and CONCACAF) prior to the draw on November 23rd. P.S. Looking at some of the other answers. Australia is part of Asia now not Oceania. |
