Question Greece Squads Named

Greece coach Otto Rehhagel opted for experience when he named a squad of 23 players on Monday for the side's Euro 2008 Group C qualifiers against Bosnia and Turkey.

Bolton midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos is back in Greece's squad. Giannakopoulos returned to fitness after a hernia operation, and will be on hand to face visiting Bosnia on October 13 and travel to Turkey four days later.

Rehhagel named Giannakopoulos and 10 other overseas players, including Manchester City striker Giorgos Samaras.

European champion Greece leads Group C with 19 points, two more than both Norway and Turkey.

Goalkeepers: Antonis Nikopolidis (Olympiakos), Kostas Halkias (Aris)

Defenders: Giourkas Seitaridis (Atletico Madrid), Michalis Kapsis (APOEL), Sotiris Kyrgiakos (Eintracht Frankfurt), Loukas Vyntra (Panathinaikos), Traianos Dellas (AEK Athens), Nikos Spyropoulos (Panionios), Yannis Goumas (Panathinaikos), Paraskevas Antzas, Christos Patzatzoglou, Vassilis Torosidis (all Olympiakos)

Midfielders: Kostas Katsouranis (Benfica), Angelos Basinas (Mallorca), Giorgos Karagounis (Panathinaikos), Stelios Giannakopoulos (Bolton Wanderers), Alexandros Tziolis (Panathinaikos)

Strikers: Fanis Gekas (Bayer Leverkusen), Giorgos Samaras (Manchester City), Yannis Amanatidis (Eintracht Frankfurt), Angelos Charisteas (Nuremberg), Dimitris Salpiggidis (Panathinaikos), Nikos Lymperopoulos (AEK Athens)

what the hell?

Cool Charisteas and Rehhagel talk about the Matches

In an interview with the Turkish press, Nurnberg and Greece striker Angelos Charisteas, revealed that all of his teammates must concentrate in Saturday's Greece v Bosnia-Herzegovina encounter.

"It is too early for us to be discussing the game between Turkey and Greece. We must win Bosnia first on Saturday before we can think of anything else," said Charisteas about Greece's two crucial EURO 2008 encounters.

"We must be very concentrated as to what we have been asked to do and what we are trying to accomplish in that game. After that we can certainly talk about our game against Turkey on Wednesday. We take on every game separately," concluded Charisteas.

Meanwhile, Greece coach Otto Rehhagel is happy to see Bolton midfielder Stelios Giannakopoulos make a successful come back after his hernia operation.

"The game against Bosnia is a one way street for us and we must do our best to achieve that goal," said Giannakopoulos.

"It is only natural that our supporters talk more about the Turkey game but we must be concentrated on our next game, which is against Bosnia. A win will give a huge boost to our chances of qualifying to the EURO 2008 finals stage. If we win we can look at the Turkey game from a different perspective," concluded Giannakopoulos.

Seitaridis is out with an injury it seems. Gekas may not play either.

The fact we have Patsa means we are ok on the left... however who will score for Greece?

Cool Must Win Game for Greece

Group C Pld W D L GF GA Pts
Greece 8 6 1 1 14 7 19
Norway 9 5 2 2 20 8 17
Turkey 8 5 2 1 21 8 17
Bosnia-Herzegovina 9 4 1 4 14 16 13
Hungary 9 3 0 6 8 17 9
Malta 8 1 2 5 7 17 5
Moldova 9 1 2 6 5 16 5

Greece must be wary of Turkey which is 2 points away from Greece at top with 19.

If Greece can win the next two games (6) or even tie and win (3) they will be qualifying for EURO 2008 to defend the title!

Oooo Eeee Pame Elladaraaa

OOOO EEEE PAME ELLADARAAA

2 games 2 wins... lets go!

Bosnia-Herzegovina is the only thing on Greece NT players minds . In Thursday's pre-game conference the Greek coach Otto Rehhagel coach talked about the problems faced by the European Champions.

"After our draw against Norway we paved the path for a EURO 2008 finals stage qualification spot and we must defend that on Saturday. Under no circumstances should we underestimate Bosnia-Herzegovina. It is a team that has beaten both Norway and Turkey and still has a slim chance for advancing," said Rehhagel.

"I hope that all of our players are ready, but we have called 23 players to cover for anything that might come up. There is always problems. We must see how Gekas and Charisteas feel. It is prudent that our starting eleven are all in good shape and ready for battle. We will give our answers on the pitch. I hope that Charisteas and Gekas are ready, but even if they are not we have many players that can fill in for them."

"I would be more than happy if we can get at least 50,000 supporters at the stadium with us. What we must do on our end is to be concentrated on the game. The stadium is the same size as all the rest of the stadiums so we should not have any problems with that."

"We were very disappointed that we did not make the 2006 World Cup finals stage. Everyone wants to qualify in the EURO 2008 finals stage now. We all made individual mistakes during the World Cup campaign but we have taken those mistakes to a minimum now."
