I know Gazza is in a bad way just now, and that's a shame. For anyone, footballer or not. Mental health issues are as serious as any other illness, and in some cases, worse. I would prefer to remember that he was a fantastic player, a genuine crowd-pleaser with the soul of a clown. He arguably played the best stuff of his career in Scotland.

For once, can the old firm bias be put aside ? You will get Rangers fans who dispute the fact that Larsson was a great player. That's just daft. Anyone who appreciates football must admit that Gazza was a great player, too. Despite the fact he played for Rangers. As a player, who was a better midfielder in Scottish football in the past 30 or 40 years ?

Wish the man well, in recovering from his illness, I say.
XXccXX, No way would I condone it, no matter who did so. Read the answers from earlier, to the question 'Paul Gascoigne'.

Larsson was the best striker, goram was the best keeper, best defender im not sure, and the best midfielder is a toss up between gazza, laudrup and di canio,

Billy i am struggling to argue with that. I sat in the north stand when he burst clear and scored against us then ran Right in front of me screaming. He was class no doubt!. Even back then he showed signs of having problems (Flute playing, crying etc) But one thing you can not take away from Gazza when he played up here nobody could touch him. And i mean Nobody! OUCH THAT HURT.

Hmmm, def one of the most entertaining and on his game, nobody could live with him.
To say he played his best up here is easy considering the calibre of player he is up against, I would say before the injury at Lazio was his best season, even the 'best defenders' in the world of Italy had no answer to his magic and it was bad time to go breaking a leg however his and Lazio's loss was Rangers' gain cause no way a 100% Gazza was in Rangers' price range.

The man himself lived a pretty contraversial life and I am giving views on him as a player not the wife beater or alchoholic etc.., hope he receives the help he needs to recover.

Do you condone wife beating so longs it is a Rangers legend doing it?
I wonder...

I too find this difficult as I never liked him as a person and wrongly as it may be that clouded my opinion of him as a player.....Di Canio for me

Sorry matey-reckon Gazza was way past his best at Rangers and his performances in Europe proved that.Best midfielder to play in Scotland since the 60's, in my opinion, was the magnificent maestro Paul McStay-Unfortunately he played in a few bad Celtic sides with players who weren't fit to lace his boots. In fact, reckon Gordon Strachan at Aberdeen was a better player in Scotland than Gazza was at Rangers.

Obviously I can appreciate he was a very good player on his day but I don't like Gazza and I'm struggling to find any sympathy for the guy. Brian Laudrup had more talent and more class in his wee toe than Gazza ever did.

Don't get me wrong I don't wish bad on anyone, but I'm not gonna wish well a troublemaking wife beating alcoholic just because he was a decent player.
