Santos and Real Madrid
Santos had Pele, the greatest player of all time and Real always
brought in top class and entertaining players.

Since this is a pithy question, it needs a pithy answer.

1. Real Madrid
2. Manchester United

Madrid because they have won the most number of European Cups,
had the greatest lineup of all time, and are an institution.

United because they have almost as much history as Madrid,
but so have a lot of other clubs, but United also is the best
followed side in the world at present.

Italy is

All of Milan's titles during the Berlusconi era are legit. Juve don't
get special favours from refs in Europe.

I think the greatest line-up would have been the Milan of 92-93.

--------------------Rossi

Tassotti Baresi Costacurta Maldini

Gullit Rijkaard Boban Savicevic

-----------Papin -----------Van Basten

Unfortunately the regulations of the time only allowed this line-up to
occur in exhibition matches as they could still only field three
Italians at one time.

I suppose most succesful would be a reasonable definition of greatest,
so it would be Milan and Real Madrid, followed by Penarol,
Independiente and Boca Juniors.
