Peruvian Federation banned by FIFA due to "interference" by
government.

Manuel Burga, President of Federacion Peruana de Futbol was previously
suspended by the Peruvian Institute of Sports, leaded by Arturo
Woodman, the successful organizer of Copa America 2004.

Burga didn’t accept the suspension, appealed to the Peruvian courts,
failed and afterwards launched a reelection campaign for the Peruvian
Federation, which he won.

From my reading of the Peruvian press between-lines during the last
months, my perception is that most of the Peruvian press, the fans and
the three main clubs: Alianza, Universitario and Sporting Cristal, put
the blame on Burgas, who is strongly supported by Conmebol and FIFA.

Peru has already lost the venue of the U-20 South American tournament
which is to be staged January 2009 in Venezuela, and has until 20
December to come to terms with the omnipresent power of the Zurich
multinational.
