No it's fine. It's the only way to treat it. You're running the
competition. If you can't find the post on your server OR on google you
have to assume it hasn't been sent. It's the only fair way to do it.

FF:

Yes.

Apart from the prohibition to pick the same team of your opponent, yes. But
on this, see the next reply.

FF:

FF, I owe a great debt to you: without your suggestions, the
Unsophisticated Contest of last year would have been far worse. But on this
point, I disagree. Of course, if contestants prefer to change rules, it's
not a problem at all.

Let me explain what I think about your suggestion (to permit picking the
same team).
Pros:
- You don't have to check what team did your opponent pick: playing would
be a bit quicker.
- It's fairer, because it doesn't reward quickest repliers. But I don't
think that picking first is such a big advantage.
Cons:
- You can assure yourself 1 point: this could be desirable, at least for
table #2 (lossless streak).
- You can deny your opponent 3 points: later in the season, this could be
useful.
- The outcome of the virtual match would be known before the real matches:
no fun. For the same reason, I preferred to have no-prediction > loss.

It's not about owing a great debt, come on. You can always disagree. I
just made a suggestion.

You're absolutely right.
You still could ask people to give you their picks privately. But I
guess you want to keep it as open as possible.

How 'bout if both pick the same team, they both win, draw or loose
depending on what their team does ? Just a thought, I haven't
considered the consequences, that's your job. And for the case
somebody has an interest to get tied: if player A submits first and
then his opponent chooses the same team, A could be allowed to have
another pick if he wants to. You might find this too complicated, and
there are probably also timing problems. So, once again, feel free to
take it or leave it as it is.

My pleasure.

Yes, that's what I meant when I said somebody might want to get tied
(to his opponent). Thus, if the second player picks the same game, the
first player can then change his mind. But there might be timing
problems, as I said.

Actually, this also can be avoided. So, if a player wants to have a
different team than his opponent in a game, he'll be allowed to submit
2 picks, a main one and a backup one. Based on these, you'll be able
to assign different teams to each player of a pair, except for the
case when both submit the same team and no backup pick. Which is OK
because it means both are OK with them choosing the same team. So, I'd
say that'd be it. A little complicated maybe but not too much IMO.
