PLATINI HITS OUT AT WENGER

"I do not like the system of Arsene Wenger," he said.

"In France, Italy and Spain it is easy to buy with money the best
players at 14, 15 or 16. I don't like that.

"If my son is playing at Millwall and at 16 Manchester (United) come
in for this player then when will Millwall have a good team?"

Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

Would somebody be kind enough to point out to me the difference
between buying a player in his teens or a few years later (other than €
€€)?

Platini may have been a great player but he is clueless was an
administrator.

The difference is when a club invests money in "maturing" a teenage player
during years by teaching him his future job, the formative club should
benefit first of the player's talents or at least a little bit of money
back...
In this case, signing young players before they play professional football
is not scouting, it's stealing the work of the true "scouters".

So which club should take the benefit for a player like Fabregas,
Barcelona or Arsenal? If Fabregas had stayed at Barca he'd be rotting
away in Tercera Division, like Vieira was at Milan.

Professional clubs tend to sign teenage players en masse and rely,
more or less, on natural selection to filter out the true talents.

I don't think this is true, at least in France. They couldn't afford to pay
for the whole training + scolarity of dozens of young pupils during 5
years...
And Wenger has specialized in young players pillage, everywhere in Europe.
If you look at the young french players playing for Arsenal, you notice that
they were signed before their club could make their formation profitable,
sometimes before even signing their first pro contract :

Abou Diaby from Auxerre, played only 10 first team matches before joining
Arsenal at 19.
Gael Clichy from AS Cannes joined Arsenal at 17.
Armand Traoré from AS Monaco, never played for the first team, joined
Arsenal at 16.
Mathieu Flamini from Marseilles joined Arsenal at 20, after only 14 first
team matchs...
Lassana Diarra from Le Havre AC, played only one year in first team before
joining Chelsea at 19.

What you are conveniently forgetting is,that many of the Youngsters groomed
by teams like Arsenal leave and have wonderful careers with other top
Clubs,Lupoli,Laarson,Sidwell, Mumba and Bentley to name but a few..these
Clubs therefore benefit from the expense that Arsenal etc have gone to
bringing these guys to the top level. The fact that AW has such a marvellous
scouting system that enables him to sign these young lads is the envy of
most clubs,at least at Arsenal they are taught the Ethos of Total Football!

Arsenal sign (almost free) promising young players and often lend them to
unsignificant clubs until these players have matured enough (or not). This
is even worse than pillage, it's outsourcing ! The current young players of
Arsenal's beautiful first team are the eleven trees that hide the forest...!
