Cool Gekas and Kyrgiakos Bundesliga Favorites

March 11th 2007

German clubs are in for a joy ride with Greek forward Fanis Gekas and Greek defender Sotiris Kyrgiakos. The Greek international players have been playing well (Gekas is second in Bundesliga's top scorer list), and are helping their clubs get the much needed points they need in the German championship race. Both players made it in the German Bundesliga's matchday 25 team of the week - Gekas scored 2 goals and Kyrgiakos 1.

Good news for Greeks abroad. The Bundesliga is a strong league with really good football.

We will need both to shine vs. Turkey.

Good call by Otto getting them both in the game.

Kyrgiakos was good, I thought. Gekas was only in briefly, I think he'll get a chance against Malta.

Yeah Gekas has had several chances and has been unlucky. A few Gekas could have finished better but this these 2 games have only been the games he has played on the NT since going to Germany.

As for Kyrgiakos, what can I say. He scored and played well as defender. Best defender right now on the Greek team. He has had 3-4 other chances from headers and could easily have had 2-3 more goals the past 2 games.

Kyrgiakos was for sure our best player over the last 2 games. Like you said admin, he was strong defensively and had a ton of chances off set pieces too. Plus he scored a goal.

A good Thessalian lad from Trikala. Thank God for his emergence, we'd be in trouble if we had to rely on other defenders like Fyssas.

I hear that the German Press refers to Soti as the "Greek Godzilla."

Gekas has what the Greeks haven't truly had in a while, a legit sniper who can sonsistently score. Sure they have had some descent strikers, no doubt about that, but this gentleman is a step beyond that. His job is to burythe ball, and he does it.
