Play for varsity soccer team?

Hey all!
I'm going into university and the coach of the university wants me to play for them. That would mean training six days a week + games + travelling and other activities (physio, stretching activities, bike work, etc...) For those of you who've done at least their first year university, how much spare time did you have? I'm academically an overachiever. I've heard 1st year is the most stressful as it is. Do you think I will be able to handle it? I don't handle stress very well. I guess my main question is how stressful is first year and how much spare time do you have? (PS: I'm moving far away from home, so that'll probably also be stressful. I'm leaving all my family and friends.)

Play for varsity soccer team?

I played collegiate soccer with my team over 2000 miles away from home. I think a lot of it will depend on what your major is. My first semester was crazy. I didn't have much time for anything but soccer, but I managed to keep up with my studies.

Second semester was a breeze since the training in spring was much reduced. However, sophomore year was even tougher...much tougher...I had just as much soccer and twice as much homework. I took 17 credit hours and I ended up failing one class...and I graduated first in my class in high school. Of course I'm majoring in Aerospace engineering so I'm taking some serious courses.

The next semester was not quite as hard although I had almost no free time. That was my last semester of soccer because of an ankle injury. I must say that now I'm glad I'm not playing soccer now that I'm a Junior. My grades would have been terrible and I barely had time to eat and sleep, let alone play soccer.

I admit, some people can do it, but from what I've seen on my team, it's caused poor grades and it's caused lots of people to have to graduate in 4 1/2 years instead of 4. Good luck with whatever you decide

(PS At least you get one day a week off...we went for over 1 1/2 months without a day off)
