Why do police officers escort football coaches off the field at the end of a game?

Is this a tradition or is it part of security at stadiums? I just wonder because I notice this happens at the end of football games.

how this for a example. you are the coach of the greens devil, u can win the game with a tie but instead u goes for the homerun touchdown to win the game. The wide receiver is wide open and drop the ball. I blame u the coach for making the call and run up 2 u let u know how i feel.

It's just part of security. Drunken or rowdy fans may take out their frustrations on the coaches.
