Why do americans watch soccer only during the world cup?

I have realized that americans don't watch soccer, ever. Only when there is a big tournament like the World Cup. I want to know why.

What I want to know is why people make stupid generalizations about Americans not liking soccer/football.

even if the americans are playing for the championship game at WC(which isn't going to happen for a long time), you'll find about 20% of americans watching it.

they generally think the sport is boring. and they grew up playing other sports instead of soccer.

oh..one more thing. football and basketball games have cheerleaders. :-)

i love EPL btw. and i don't live in the states.

it interferes with nascar and baseball...apparently soccer is boring compared to them...
