better resources than South Africa? I don't understand this.... world events should be hosted by the superpower countries as they have the resources to support such an event.

The players and foreigners travelling to South Africa would probably get mugged. Why on earth would they host it in a dangerous country with significant risk to foreigners and players alike?

Hey maybe we should host the 2014 WC in Afghanistan.

I think they hosted the 2010 WC in South Africa to help bolster its economy, since its really a country on the rise. They couldve hosted the WC in China, then they wouldve had two major events in two years, but the WC will really help South Africa as a growing country. You could argue that you can still get mugged in China, and the (kind of) communist government would probably do what they did with the '08 Olympics and (reportedly) hide all the homeless people and make wherever they host it look good. Even though China has a much superior economy and much more available resources, I think it was a good choice to host it in South Africa.
