When did chelsea emerged as one of the top clubs in europe and how?

They don't have a glorius history like arsenal, manu or liverpool.when one looks at their history he will not find them winnig any premier league,champions league or any other major title before 2005.then how did they suddenly emerged as a top club in europe?
I have started watching football just in 2006.

So basically, Roman Abramovich (Billionaire) took over Chelsea and put in massive money on transfer funds, wage structures, facilities etc. to establish strong squads and coaching staffs that can challenge for any titles.

When Roman took over, invested heavily into the club and 1000's off 'supporters' jumped on the bandwagon. Add to that the amount of high profile players they have and the rest as they say is history............

Notice in the "Honours" section all there major wins came after Roman arrived at the club. sure they won some second divisions and so on before but really they became large after the billionaire came.
