Bigger than both Real Madrid and Manchester United

Comment: I'm not anti-money, but I support a 6-home grown players rule
in football and that proposal of a certain number of squad players
having to from the association. It won't stand up to EU law, eh? Like
Abramovich, these guys seem to be in it for the long haul. Yes,
probably some competitive ego involved in it too. Mind you if Mark
Hughes has no say in the signings, and they don't make balanced
signings, it'll all fall apart. But that United - Real quote is
ominous (even if incorrect, they can be the biggest in terms of money
available to sign players, but in terms of fanbase, commercial
attractiveness, gates and trophies, they can't claim #1 for a while).

However, he identified United's Ronaldo as the biggest challenge for
the billionaire tycoons, backed by members of the United Arab Emirates
royal family, who have taken control of the club from Thaksin
Shinawatra. "Real Madrid were estimating his value at $160m (£90m) but
for a player like that, to actually get him, will cost a lot more; I
would think $240m (£135m). But why not? We are going to be the biggest
club in the world, bigger than both Real Madrid and Manchester United."

We need to introduce some kind of UK player quota. Say 5 per team. We also
need to put a cap on what a club can spend on players every year.

The transfer window should run for May and June but end on July 1 before the
clubs pre-season begins and there should be no window in January.

Non UK based owners of clubs should not be allowed. If some Yank, Arab or
Russian wants to own a Premiership club, he has to live in the UK. They
should be forced to sign a contract that states they will never try and
relocate their club abroad, as City's new owners have said they'd like to do
one day.
