no they haven't. Football clubs are businesses (whether we like it or not) and part of that is to get as much money as possible for your assets. therefore when a rich club comes in for one of your assets you "chance your arm" and bump the price up knowing they will pay it.

Look at carrick last season, Spurs said they wouldn't sell him for less than £18m, so utd stumped up the cash. Look at Essien a few years back, Utd were going to sign him and as soon as chelsea came in for him, the price doubled - Lyon gave the old' we dont want to seel our best player for less than £25 m' and hey presto, chelsea splash the cash.
