Nikolaidis submits resignation!
21 Aug 2008
PAE AEK president Demis Nikolaidis has submitted his resignation to the club's board of directors according to Greek news paper "Exedra"!
Many have speculated that Nikolaidis' involvement with football from a managerial standpoint has interfered with his private life, something he is not comfortable with. Many even go to the extend to tie his wife's (Despina Vandi) recent car accident with this decision.
Many factors have played a role into Nikolaidis' decision with the following being on top of the list.
1) The fact that he has not been able to get the supporters by his side, an indication in the drop of season ticket sales.
2) His unsuccessful tries in getting a stadium/training center built for AEK.
3) His disappointment in Greek football as he believes that football in Greece is not played on the pitch but "under the table".
At the same time Nikolaidis seems to be disappointed with some shareholders who he informed of his decision via e-mail! The news paper states that Nikolaidis sent this e-mail out a few days but he has been pressured to stick around, thus not moving forward with his decision at the present time.
His resignation timeline states that he will step down as PAE AEK president at the end of the season but before he does that he wants to have AEK set in a good position for success and to have started the stadium/training center construction |
