Paok - Aek

AEK will stomp on her sister team to the north. I hope PAOK take some lessons on rebopunding from AEK. AEK too was on the brink of disaster two years ago and looks great now. PAOK should try to so the same.

As for the game, forget it PAOK, AEK will take it.

Have to agree with you there Titan. This is a big match and I think AEK will want it more. 3-1 prediction for AEK.

PAOK 2 - AEK 0

Jan 7th 2007

PAOK was the winner of the Greek Super League Matchday 16 “derby” game that took place on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Thessaloniki’s Toumpa stadium. The financially trouble club proved to second place AEK Athens that their home ground is something to be reckoned with.

Miecel and Arampatzis were PAOK’s scorers with Arampatzis’ strike a certain contender for goal of the season. The visitors were not able to compete as they would lose their individual battles with much ease, while Akis Zikos’ absence was felt at the AEK ranks.

PAOK had the first chance on goal in the 22nd minute when midfielder Elias Haralambous beat two defenders but his shot missed wide. AEK's Vasilis Lakis also missed in the 43rd.

PAOK took the lead in the 66th with a thunderous right foot volley from 30 meters out by Arampatzis.

AEK pushed forward for an equalizer but it was PAOK which scored again in the 76th with a diving header by striker Marcin Miecel off a cross by Kostas Charalambidis.

Despite its second loss of the season, AEK is second with 34 points, five behind league leader Olympiakos which plays at Xanthi on Sunday. Panathinaikos is third with 31 points and hosts Aigaleo on Sunday. PAOK has 25 points.
