AEK and NATO Defiance

Here's a little blurb from Wikipedia about AEK. Although Greece is a loyal member of NATO, they will voice their opinions and notbe the US or UK puppet. Whether you like Serbs or not, it is irrelevent, this took some huge balls. I can't see many, i any, other teams doing something like this. I am proud of these dudes. I din't know this until today even though it took place years ago.

NATO Defiance

AEK F.C. had another definitive moment of pride in 1999, which was probably more significant to its supporters than cups or championships. Their trip to Belgrade (which stood under international embargo and was being bombed by the NATO airforce at the time) and the friendly match against Partizan Belgrade (1-1) was a brave token of compassion towards the Serbs and a symbol of protest against NATO aggression. It was the initiative of ex-president Dimitris Melissanidis whereupon many fans and nearly the entire club roster responded to AEK's call and travelled to war-ridden Belgrade.

I remember that moment in AEK history. A very noble gesture to the Serbs.
