As a Man U fan, I know Ronaldo's amazing, But Messi is outa this world. You didnt even include him.

it is clearly messi. Not only is he young but he is fast, has great ball control and has a decent shot. he is the youngest one on your list so.. messi. I would also consider Bojan Krikic he plays in FCBarcelona and is 17 . He is amazing.

Definetly KAKA' best player all round the amount of goals and assists he scores and makes is just incredible regardless if the team are in champions league or not is besides the point

messi and cr7, too close to call. although i like a messi better and supprt barca. both incrediable players in their own way and style.

It is either Ronaldo or Messi. I would choose Ronaldo because not only did he score 42 goals, he had 9 assists, always facing at least 2 defenders as he is always dangerous. The vast majority of this from a right mid role.

Not Messi - not just yet, not after the season CR had. Plus, for all the people who knocked CR for not winning a big tournament like World Cup, CL, EURO... his knocked out Messi's team in CL play
Not Torres - great year but Stevie G allowed him to have that kind of season
Not Drogba - better season in 06/07 than in 07/08
Not Kaka - great player yes but doesn't have the number of goals from open play as you want, scores a ton from the spot (as does CR but Kaka didn't have it this year... be honest)
Not Ronaldinho - not this year as i think the pastries got the better of him
Not van Nistlerooy - unbelievable but still reliant on others to get him to goal
Not Eto'o - didn't have the season needed to be considered
Not Adriano - do i need to say anything here
Not Ballack - in 4 major events was the captain and his team lost all 4 (EURO, CL, EPL (Chelsea lost on the last day to not even make an argument) and Carling Cup)

You seem to focus only on goal scorers. If that's all you care about, its a toss up between Torres and Juan Pablo Angel. If you are looking for an all-around player and leader, it would HAVE to be Steven Gerrard. Maybe Kaka, but you can't be the best and have a silly name like that.
