| If they do qualify then Harry Kewell, Tim Cahill, Lucas Neil, Brett Emerton, Vince Grella, Jason Culina, and Mark Bresciano will be veterans of the squad. I'm sure that Mark Viduka will be retired by then along with Scott Chipperfield.
There are already-made replacements for Viduka and Chipperfield such as Josh Kennedy and Michael Thwaite. Luke Wilkshire and Carl Valeri could be the midfield battlers in the squad.
I reckon it will be the last tournament representing the Socceroos for Mark Schwarzer. Adam Federici of Reading FC is young and can claim a spot as a reserve keeper.
I think Australia will have a relatively old squad with some young ones in there...maybe even some that are currently playing in the A-league. Youngsters like Michael Zullo and Robbie Kruse of Queensland Roar, Kaz Patafta of Melboune FC (on loan from Benfica) and Alex Brosque of Sydney FC could break into the team, either on the bench or on the starting team.
There will be other players in contention for a spot such as Michael Beauchamp, Nick Carle, David Carney, Scott McDonald and Patrick Kisnorbo.
So many players listed there...Australia have depth in the midfield and in the attack but they will struggle in defence which has been their weak point for as long as I remember.  |
