| Mainly because of culture. Soccer has never been a big part of this culture. Children are not taught to play it and love it as young kids like other countries. Americans decided to focus their efforts into other sports instead, and so here kids want to be football, baseball or basketball players.
Also...US is not even all that interested in soccer in an international level. Sure...they televised the world cup last year, but that was about it. No US sports network televised the final of the gold cup - and the US beat Mexico! US was invited to play at Copa America and the only channel showing the games are the Hispanic channels. What makes you think they'll be interested in it on a national level?
Sure...People are a little more interested in it now, but it will take a very long time for it to become popular enough for the majority of the general public to really care for it, and even then they still won't really car efor it as much as other sports. |
