I also have a low pain threshold and have given birth vaginally twice. A C-section is major surgery and the recovery is much more painful. Think about it~ they cut into your muscles. You will take about 6 weeks to recover from a C-section. With my vaginal deliveries, I felt "normal" after a week or so. With modern medicine, there's no reason for birth to be very painful. An epidural really does help. Just remember that women have done this for millions of years and if it really were that bad, the human race would have died off ages ago. Trust me, if I can handle it at 17, you'll be just fine. You've just got to have more confidence in your self and your body. Research vaginal deliveries as much as you can so that you are prepared for the big day. Also, remember to have a good supporter in the room with you. Good luck!
