Because some listing brokers only pay commission to members of their MLS board only. For that reason, it is wise to list the home in nearby MLS boards. For example, maybe an agent in Oakland has a client that is relocating to San Francisco. That agent will show the San Francisco house that is listed in the Oakland so that he/she can get the commission.
