Yes if Iraq beats Saudi Arabia then they will be in the Confederations Cup in 2009 against the US, Brazil, Italy, and others. I'm certainly rooting for Iraq to win the Asian Cup, if nothing more than to give the Iraqi people a reason to have some solidarity and some national heroes.
Honestly however, I dont think Iraq can be compared to Cote de Ivorie, I dont think most of the insurgents or jihadis care much about who wins in football. It saddens me to think that the suicide bombers are looking at these mass celebrations as a target. Plus, the victory would be over Saudi Arabia, where over half of the foreign fighters/ suicide bombers are coming from. Maybe that will exacerbate the sitation?? Very sad |
