| Most popular Irish football club?
Yes Irish League and Eircom League soccer isn't really very popular here. Even with the better clubs, the standard is only about the same as the English third division (League One), so people interested in soccer tend to follow British teams. Most people are much more interested in the All-Ireland Gaelic football and hurling championships, or maybe in the Heineken Cup rugby teams. For instance, there were less than 10,000 at the FAI Cup final last year, but well over 80,000 at the All-Ireland final in Gaelic football, and the same in hurling.
The most popular club? There probably isn't a single most popular team. Three of the teams with the biggest followings would be Derry City, Bohemians and Cork City. Shamrock Rovers have a great tradition too. Hope this helps, but I don't think there is a single most popular team. |
